The historic village of Castleknock on the main Dublin/Navan Road is an excellent choice for the recently opened Lidl shopping complex. Reached via the Castleknock Road and past prime ground floor retail units with apartments above, the main Lidl store is situated. There is under store parking at Lidl and further open parking behind.
The whole complex is bright and spacious with lots of outdoor seating all finished to a high quality and APS are very proud of how our products have contributed to this.
Ground floor retail units are glazed in APS structurally bonded curtain walling with integrated stone cladding above. Each unit has a 1.2m glazed return to the ACD commercial door.
The main Lidl store is glazed with Logic 50 curtain walling and the south facing screen is solar protected via APS glass fin solar shading fitted to an independent steel frame. Other south facing windows are solar protected by APS SR200 aluminium solar shading.
DARD Rivers Agency
APS are pleased to have worked closely with the design team from the early stages of this project at the uniquely designed offices, in Cookstown for the DARD Rivers Agency .
This stunning building is glazed using APS AP100 Therm+ high performance window system along both sides of the building envelope. The windows span 7500mm in height and include APS extruded, thermally broken cill and end caps.
The central focal points have to be the two main glazed gables giving the building a modern individual twist. These have been installed using the Logic 50 curtain walling system with Super Neutral 51/28 glass.
The addition of the new SR200 Brise Soleil solar shading system to both the gables gives an aesthetic but also a practical solution to solar gain. The aero foil louvre system has been mounted directly to our Logic 50 curtain walling. This saves on additional structural steel and also keeps the curtain walling weather seal, by preventing structural mountings breaching the façade’s integrity.
Laganbank Retail Park
APS are pleased to have our systems installed on the recently completed Lagan Bank Retail Park in Lisburn. Working close with Like Architects from the early conception of the project, the results speak for themselves.
The systems installed on these high end retail units were APS Logic50 curtain walling and commercial doors. The curtain walling consists of two finishes. One is the glazing system with standard pressure plates and caps and the other is our ACW-SG system which is pressure plate and cap less.
The glass units are held in position with pockets and toggles, allowing the system to be finished with a glass to glass silicone joint. To add to the modern finish the architects selected from our range the aerofoil cap, which has been installed to the transoms.
To increase the presence further, glass to glass corners were included within the design and the aerofoil caps have been mitred at the building corners, allowing for an unbroken lines across the elevations.
Car dealerships want their customers to have a great experience from start to finish.
To do this they require a state of the art aluminium glazing system that can showcase top of the range cars easily from inside and out and in a comfortable yet secure setting. Nowhere is this more evident than the new showroom at Audi Portadown. APS aluminium glazing systems were chosen for their ability to achieve a glazed facade that was second to none.
ACW Logic 50 curtain walling on three of the elevations ensures the building is bright and undeniably eye-catching but still maintains a high degree of thermal efficiency using 34mm triple glazing throughout to replace original 11.5mm laminate. ACD automated commercial sliding doors allow vehicle access to the showroom.
This system is capable of achieving a clear opening of 6m wide x 2.4m high. The finished building surpasses everyone’s expectations.
Ten Square Hotel, Belfast
April 2018 has been described as a milestone month in the Belfast hotel sector as rooms will exceed the 8500 threshold. Interestingly 20 years ago this figure was under 5000. Ten Square Hotel in the city centre has just opened a further 60 bedrooms following the completion of Phase 2 in their major plan to extend within the adjacent former Scottish Amicable Building.
The exciting project was additional to last year’s extension which also added 52 bedrooms and reception area to their portfolio and APS are pleased to see our architectural glazing systems on display at this prominent hotel.
Coogan Architects have involved APS from the early design stage.
The scheme utilized our Logic50 curtain walling system and made use of our exciting projection support brackets pictured. These support the ‘Juliet’ glass balconies from our profiles on the façade. These glass balconies give guarding to the open-in AP200 doors in each room. In the recent phase, Coogan Architects selected a textured bronze PPC finish to our systems and insulated panels, which has created an amazing presence to the project
River House Belfast
River house is a multimillion pound building in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter, Belfast that has become a talking point around the city. This building on High St went unnoticed before as it was dull and aesthetically boring but it has now evolved into a modern eye-catching land mark and APS products have helped contribute to this big transformation.
A major multimillion pound renovation project involved a complete new front façade and window replacement to the rear. APS were involved from a very early stage with the project’s architects, Povall Worthington and are proud to have our systems selected and installed on the project.
The architects had several requirements and design issues, which we helped them achieve. These included:
• A bespoke finishing cap, which is applied to every 5th bay to help break up the mass span of glass horizontally.
• The cap creates the image of a steel girder projecting through the glass façade, all of which integrated within the system and keeps the continual seal of the façade weathertight.
• Transoms are structural silicone pointed. This makes life easier during the cleaning operation via abseiling.
• The new glass frontage using Logic 50 curtain walling was installed from the top down allowing the fit-out to follow behind the curtain walling installation and reducing scaffold hiring costs and completion time.
• The whole façade is glued to the existing structure achieved with a two part resin injected into a drilled hole in to the existing floors, which bonded a stainless steel threaded bolt. This allowed the existing concrete panels to remain behind the new facade.
• APS structural projection plates provide fixings for mounting the large signage while keeping continuity of glass and weatherseal behind the sign rather than mounting back to the existing structure. All supported directly by the APS curtain walling system.
• The facade glass is a top spec solar control anti-sun to prevent any solar heat gains, yet has a high U-value performance to reduce any thermal loss.
Combilifts has officially opened its new global headquarters and manufacturing facility in Monaghan Ireland, coinciding with its 20th anniversary this year. The new building, which was designed by Milligan Reside Larkin Architects in Newry, cost €50 million and covers 500,000sq ft. It will allow Combilifts to realise its ambitious growth plans.
The project is set on a 100 acre site and has 11 acres of roof space. It is one of the largest manufacturing operations under a single roof in Ireland. The roof is 23% skylights enabling staff to work in natural light and meet their staggering production target of a finished forklift every 15 minutes.
APS liaised with Milligan Reside Larkin Architects from the early design stage, ensuring structural mounts were integral to the design allowing the architects’ vision to be created. The project includes our APS Logic50 curtain walling system, AP100Therm+ polyamide insulated window system, ACD commercial doors with anti-finger trap to the entrance and glazed automatic opening roof vents to the roof screens.
You would have to agree this project looks stunning with its sharp, crisp finish and it’s completed to a very high standard. The architects have succeeded in creating a dramatic impact on anyone visiting this company.
Chichester House, Belfast
As the city centre construction project at Chichester House Belfast ended the removal of scaffolding on the front elevation revealed bespoke profiles supplied by APS. The design by Coogan and Co. Architects required a box out rigging spanning 5 floors. This was to increase the presence of the project aesthetically in the busy city street. The feature was a difficult one to achieve but APS worked closely with the architects in designing a solution.
Bespoke aluminium sections were designed and produced by APS and these integrated with our Logic50 Curtain walling system, spanning floor to floor allowing space for the façade dressed stone.
This solution, while building into the system expansion, is sleeved for simpler site construction by MSM Contracts. The “Telio” out rigging system was installed with ease by Bann Architectural Systems.
With a lot of detail input by APS and attendance at design meetings throughout the contract all went successfully well and to schedule. The end result was a dramatic unveiling fulfilling the architects design brief to the max.
St Patrick’s Academy, Lisburn
A new accommodation block for St Patrick’s Academy, Lisburn has been officially opened. APS are proud to have been associated with the work on the school which is situated less than a mile from our premises.
The Ealain building houses new state of the art facilities for students and its construction which cost a total of £3.7 million was provided under the Department of Education School Enhancement Programme.
Designed by Daly O’Neill Associates, Portadown and built by Glasgiven Contracts this high quality accommodation will have a positive impact on the pupils, teachers and school staff for years to come.
APS supplied ACW – Logic50 curtain walling, AP100 – polyamide window system and ACD – Commercial door systems LRV compliant for fabrication and installation.
Although we pass the school on our daily commute the Ealain building is not visible from the main Ballinderry Road so it is great to see some photos of the finished result.
Phase 2 of the Lucas Exchange buildings in Antrim was completed in 2018.
The first of the two buildings was completed a couple of years previously and the second building was a mirror image of the first.
Each building comprises 17000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation over three floors and have been built to the highest of standards.
The ‘bespoke’ fitted out premises extensively include APS ACW Logic50 curtain walling system, AP100Therm+ polyamide window system and commercial ACD entrance doors.
The project was designed by Like Architects and our system easily accommodates the excessive transom spans desired by the architect all of which comes together to create a captivating and alluring building.
Located at Glenmachan Street Belfast, the Starplan showroom is extremely eye catching. This is one of the new showrooms planned as part of the NI firm’s expansion given its continued growth after more than 40 years operating.
The architects at Clarman have included several unique designs to the glazing of the project using APS systems: ACW Logic50 Curtain Walling – ACD Commercial auto bi-parting doors – SR200 Brise Soleil
A full arch surround has been integrated to the main entrance with APS curtain walling, which is completed in white laminated glazing and illuminated from behind.
The project has also included SR200 Brise Soleil louvre system. The aerofoil blades have been vertically mounted and supported from the curtain walling screen using the uniquely designed projecting plates. This saves on additional structural support and keeps the envelope’s weather rating unbroken.
The project has been finished off using painted spandrel glass adding to the sharpness. The showroom really stands out and it’s difficult for passing shoppers not to notice.
Shankill Road JBO
Staff at the recently refurbished Shankill Road JBO will have enjoyed the “benefit “of the APS AP100Therm+ window during the summer months.
Many of the original timber/aluminium composite windows no longer opened and large areas were unventilated.
The scheme was approximately 750m2 replacement windows to all the office space on the ground floor and the 4 upper floors. Now each office has thermally efficient AP100Therm+windows managing heat loss and also heat gain and providing the means for either trickle or rapid ventilation.
The 5 storey land mark which has commanding views over the greater Shankill and the west of the city was overseen by Central Procurement Department (CPD) and was completed in 3 months.
